Frank Lampard said recently that if anything other than winning the World Cup should be considered as a failure. The England team under the guidance of Fabio Capello will be travelling to South Africa next summer in good heart and the manager will be aiming to reach the final of the World Cup, but Lampard will be satisfied only if they go one better.
In the past two tournaments, England has reached the quarter-finals and these were regarded as failed campaigns.
Frank Lampard regards Fabio Capello’s aim of reaching the final in Johannesburg of South Africa as a minimum target. He will be disappointed if he his hands fails to get the trophy.
Lampard said, “A World Cup can be career-defining if you do really well, as a group and as individuals, and that means winning it, basically.”
He also added, “We’ve been in quarterfinals before, which were seen as failures, a semi-final isn’t that much better, so any defeat is no good. People want and expect us to win the tournament, which is how we feel as players.”
Lampard further said that anything other than winning would be almost a failure to him and to the team.
