Lampard’s ‘Goal’ blunder sparks controve

The fans of England thought that Frank Lampard, during the knock-out match against Germany in FIFA World Cup 2010, had scored a vital equaliser, but the replays showed that the ball bounced a yard over the opponent’s goal-line and then it recocheted off the crossbar and bouncing back onto the pitch.

Well, the goal was not awarded by the Uruguayan match officials as a blunder of this in the first-half.

Prime Minister David Cameron suggested at the G20 summit in Canada that the use of cameras should be made to help the referees judge tough decisions.

He said, “I do think that the use of technology in sport can be a bonus.”

After the defeat of England in the knock-out, manager Fabio Capello said, “The Lampard incident was one of the most important in the match. The referee made one of the biggest mistakes.”

Alan Shearer, former captain, led calls to introduce goal-line technology in football. However, FIFA president Sepp Blatter refused considering this technology.
