Lampard to remain penalty taker for Chelsea

Frank Lampard will remain as the penalty taker for the Chelsea despite of his failure against Manchester City.

Carlo Ancelotti, the Chelsea manager, said that he was unconcerned by Lampard’s rare lapse that contributed to Chelsea’s loss against the Manchester City yesterday at Eastlands.

He said, “So, Lampard can miss a penalty… These things happen. It is no problem. He will take the next one.”

Chelsea lost by 2-1 against Manchester United and this allowed the City to close the gap on Chelsea to two points at the top of the Premier League.

The last miss of Frank Lampard from the spot was in September 2006. Mark Hughes, the manager of Manchester City, also admitted that he was certain Chelsea were about to draw level once Nedum Onuoha had brought down Didier Drogba 8 minutes from time.

Chelsea picked up 6 bookings during this match and this will result in an automatic FA fine.

Manager Ancelotti had not given any confirmation that one of the men cautioned, England skipper John Terry, should be there for the next weekend’s encounter with Everton. Terry is limping off with a knee injury.
