Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Chelsea, recently claimed about Frank Lampard that he is not so effective in the ‘hole’, and so he plans to move Lampard to the left side of his fabled diamond midfield.
In his own words to The Irish Independent: “When there is not a space, it’s difficult.”
Ancelotti also added that not just for Frank Lampard, but it was also with Kaka last year at Milan. He said that it is difficult to play with no space and it is easier to play in front of the defence because the players have space.
Ancelotti elaborated his thoughts regarding the Blues’ midfield further.
The former Rossoneri boss said in this regard, “When we play with two players behind one striker, they can do better and press without the ball.”
He further said that Deco and [Salomon] Kalou can work on their central midfielder.
He also added, “In the diamond, it’s difficult because offensive midfielders have to play against two, so it’s harder to close the space and press the game.”
