Lampard backs Cole for the World Cup squad

Frank Lampard said that Joe Cole is able to offer England the “magic” needed in the World Cup to unlock defences if he is picked in the Fabio Capello’s final 23.

Lampard says that from the provisional 30-man squad who are taking training in Austria now, Capello must trim 7 of them.

During the league Cole was used as a substitute. Well, he showed some encouraging form during his cameo appearances. He was , and was particularly impressive in the second half of Chelsea’s final game romp against Wigan Athletic.

Lampard for one feels the creative midfielder should be on the plane.

Lampard said to the media, “I hope Joe will be in the squad because he is my mate and he is a great player… He is the sort of player who gives a team something different.”

He adds further that even though Cole has not played so much this season, but argument is going on that he is fresh and more dangerous.

Lampard said, “Joe has that little bit of magic, that little turn of pace and ability to beat a man that make all the difference… Not many people can bring that to a team in top-class international football but he has it, so I hope he makes it because he deserves that.”
