Frank Lampard will be missing the next Champions League match on Tuesday against Olympique Marseille and also the Euro 2012 qualifer against the Montenegro.
The 32-year-old is expected to be back in action by mid of October. His absence is ‘a massive loss to the team’ said fellow midfielder John Obi Mikel.
Ancelotti said the current condition of Lampard is something of a surprise. He said, “‘Frank will not play tomorrow.” He was referring to the game at Stamford Bridge against Marseille.
He also added further, “‘He will also miss the next England international. It is a bigger problem than we first thought but he should be fit after the international break.”
Frank Lampard has also missed the last four matches of Chelsea because of the hernia problem. He was operated after the 2-0 win over Stoke City in August.
